MY STYLE:
My style is a mix of traditional (posed, artistic shots) and Photojournalism (unposed, unobtrusive shots, capturing moments as they unfold. I lean more heavily and prefer photojournalism. However, it is my experience that with weddings and even portrait work, there needs to be a balance to guarantee that all of the shots that my clients wants are captured. I find that "Aunt Milly" just wont accept the fact that you don't have a professional shot of the whole family standing side by side, looking straight into the camera and smiling pretty. I do, however, make every effort to get through the posed group shots quickly and in most cases, as long as I have a cooporative group, I can have both sides of the family and the bridal party done and onto the reception in less than a half hour.
I do like to insist on at least 10 - 20 minutes alone with the bride and groom, as I have found that this makes for the best possible images. Having others hovering and flashing their point and shot cameras while we are trying to work, is distracting and can make the bride and groom less relaxed and comfortable. It also makes my job much harder. Since my job is to capture the best possible images of your day it is, of course, in your best interest that I be able to do my job without distraction.
Once the formal or "posed" work is done, I spend the rest of my time with you capturing all the special moments of your day. I try to stay out of the way and catch things as they happen.
....That special gleam in the grooms eye, when he grabs his new wife's hand and leads her to the dance floor for their first dance. The brides unbridled laughter or the single tear on the mother of the brides check as she watches her husband dance with their daughter. These are the moments that I live to capture. The moments that you'll cherish forever, every time you open your wedding album to revisit them.
